BYU Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi
2008 Annual Student Paper Competition

Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to sponsor a university-wide outstanding paper competition for BYU undergraduate students.


Criteria

To be considered for the award, a paper must be nominated by a BYU faculty member or administrator and should meet the following criteria:

  1. It should be an academic (research) paper written in conjunction with any regular class. Does not include Honor theses, papers written for independent research credit classes, papers which have already been publised, multiple-authored papers, and papers written solely for a national or internactional conference
  2. The paper must be double-spaced and be 8 to 35 pages in length.
  3. The papers must not carry a header or footer containing the autor's name.
  4. The paper should follow an accepted writing style for the discipline in which it is written (e.g., MLA, APA, etc.).
  5. It must be in English. Foreign language papers need to be translated into English.
  6. THREE COPIES of the paper need to be taken to the HBLL on the third floor in the Publication area (south-west corner). There is a box (with a slit) against the wall in the Publication Area that the faculty members may drop it in, or Faculty may leave it with the students working in the Publication Area. Please give instructions to put it in the Phi Kappa Phi file.

Judging Procedures

  1. Papers written during the calendar year, 2007 are eligible for submission and will be considered for awards to be given on April 3, 2008.
  2. The submission deadline is January, 2008.
  3. A committee composed of Phi Kappa Phi members will read and select The First and Second Place winners for each class level.
  4. An established criteria will be used to judge the papers.

Awards

  1. THE FIRST PLACE WINNER at each class level will receive a $400.00 award and a certificate from Phi Kappa Phi
  2. THE SECOND PLACE WINNER at each class level will receive a $200.00 award and a certificate from Phi Kappa Phi
  3. AUTHORS of the First Place and Second Place papers will be honored at a banquet on Thursday, April 3 2008 where they will receive their awards and certificates.
  4. The names of the authors and the titles of the university-wide winning papers will be inscribed and displayed on a permanent plaque in the Harold B. Lee Library honoring the winners of the Phi Kappa Phi competition.
