The BYU Chapter #52 was established on May 21, 1947, and annually invites qualified freshman to be become lifetime members.

Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society was founded by three distinguished Phi Beta Kappa members, professors, and administrators at the University of Illinois on March 22, 1923, to encourage and recognize high scholastic achievement among members of the freshman classes. Phi Eta Sigma is the third most senior member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

Brigham Young University is the perfect environment for Phi Eta Sigma and its goals to:

1)  recognize and reward students for their high moral standards and exceptional academic achievement, and

2)  provide opportunities for PES members to share their expertise through campus, community, and national activities.
